Custom Lapel Pins: Minimum Order and What They Cost

4 min read

The minimum order for custom lapel pins is 50 pieces. At 50 pins a 1 inch pin is $4.28 each, plus a one-time mold fee of $38, so 50 of them come to about $252 all in. At 100 the same pin drops to $2.32 each, at 200 it is $1.38 each, and by 500 it is $0.88 each with the mold fee waived.

Shipping is included in the per-pin price, and there is no charge until you approve your design. Below is the price by size at each quantity break, what the mold fee pays for, and the choices that change the cost.

Price Per Pin, by Size and Quantity

These are the published prices from our pricing page, the same numbers the calculator uses. Your quote confirms the exact price for the size, enamel, and backing you choose before anything is made.

  • 0.75 inch: $4.28 at 50, $2.32 at 100, $1.38 at 200, $0.80 at 500
  • 1 inch: $4.28 at 50, $2.32 at 100, $1.38 at 200, $0.88 at 500
  • 1.25 inch: $4.32 at 50, $2.36 at 100, $1.42 at 200, $1.00 at 500
  • 1.5 inch: $4.36 at 50, $2.40 at 100, $1.50 at 200, $1.12 at 500

What the $38 Mold Fee Is

Each pin is struck from a custom metal mold made from your artwork, the same way a challenge coin is. The $38 mold fee covers cutting that one die, passed through at cost with no markup. It is charged once per design, not per pin, and it is waived when you order 300 or more of the same design.

Why Small Orders Cost More Each

A pin order carries fixed costs that do not change with quantity: the mold and the shipment from the factory. Spread over 50 pins each one carries a big share of those costs, and spread over 500 the share is tiny. That is why a 1 inch pin is $4.28 at 50 but $0.88 at 500.

If you know you will want pins for new members, replacements, or a second event, ordering a bigger batch now is usually far cheaper per pin than coming back for a small reorder later.

Choices That Shape Your Pin

Not sure which finish fits? Tell us how the pin will be worn and we will recommend one on your free proof.

  • Enamel: soft enamel (recessed color with a textured feel, the classic look) or hard enamel (polished flat and smooth, a dressier finish)
  • Plating: antique or polished gold, silver, copper, or black nickel to match your branch or brand
  • Backing: a butterfly clutch is standard; rubber clutches, magnetic backs, and safety-pin backs are also available
  • Size: a bigger pin holds finer detail and more text, so size it to how much the design needs to show
