Why There Is No Setup Fee
A challenge coin, lapel pin, or belt buckle is struck from a custom metal die cut once per design, so those products carry a one-time mold fee. Dog tags are laser engraved on stock stainless steel, aluminum, or brass blanks, so there is no die to cut and no setup fee to pass on. That is why 10 tags is a realistic order where 10 coins would not be.
Why Small Orders Cost More Each
Even with no mold fee, a tag order carries one fixed cost that does not change with quantity: the shipment from the factory. Spread over 10 tags each one carries a large share of that freight, and spread over 100 the share is small. That is why a tag is $20.62 at 10 but $3.24 at 100.
If you expect to want tags for new members, replacements, or a later event, ordering a larger batch now is usually far cheaper per tag than coming back for a small reorder.
