Can I Order Just 25 Custom Challenge Coins?

4 min read

Yes. Twenty-five pieces is our minimum order for custom challenge coins, so a small batch is absolutely something we make. At 25 coins a standard design runs from about $11.40 to $19.03 per coin depending on size, plus a one-time mold fee of $140 to $190. For the common 2.0 inch coin that is $11.65 per coin and a $150 mold fee, so 25 of them is about $441 all in.

There is no charge until you approve your design, and shipping is already included in the per-coin price. The rest of this page shows the price by size at 25 pieces, explains why a small run costs more per coin than a large one, and points out the spot where ordering just a few more pays off.

Price Per Coin at 25 Pieces, by Size

These are the published prices for a standard round coin: die-struck 3D metal, soft enamel filled around the raised metal, full-color UV printing on both sides, antique gold plating, and a standard edge. The mold fee is a one-time setup charge for your custom die, passed through at cost with no markup, and it is the same whether you order 25 coins or 250.

  • 1.5 inch: $11.40 per coin, $140 mold fee
  • 1.75 inch: $11.50 per coin, $140 mold fee
  • 2.0 inch (most common): $11.65 per coin, $150 mold fee
  • 2.5 inch: $15.36 per coin, $160 mold fee
  • 3.0 inch: $17.73 per coin, $170 mold fee
  • 3.5 inch: $19.03 per coin, $190 mold fee

Why 25 Coins Cost More Each

A custom coin has fixed up-front costs that do not change with the size of the order: cutting a new mold for your design, and shipping the finished batch. On a run of 25, those costs are spread across just 25 coins, so each coin carries a bigger share of them. On a run of 250, the same setup is spread across ten times as many coins, which is why the per-coin price drops so sharply as quantity goes up.

That is not a penalty for ordering small, just the math of made-to-order manufacturing. A batch of 25 is a real, normal order for us, and plenty of customers order exactly that for a single ceremony, a command team, or a first run to test a design.

When Ordering a Few More Pays Off

Because the setup cost is fixed, the jump from 25 to 50 or 100 coins lowers the per-coin price a lot. A 2.0 inch coin is $11.65 each at 25 pieces, about $7.73 each at 50, and about $5.13 each at 100. If there is any chance you will want extras for family, future recognitions, or a second ceremony, ordering a slightly larger batch up front is usually far cheaper per coin than coming back for a small reorder later, which would mean paying setup and shipping again.

One more milestone worth knowing: order 300 or more of the same design and the mold fee is waived entirely. That threshold is well above a 25-coin order, but it is the reason large unit runs get such a low effective price.
